The IMI Way is IMI plc’s code of responsible business – published to coordinate the company’s ethical business policies across the 50 countries it works in. I was commissioned in early 2011 to design and develop a new and expanded presentation of the codex for a 2012 relaunch.
The document was typeset in 21 different languages, including some using non-latin alphabets, so the underlying structure had to be flexible enough to accommodate various average word-lengths without the need for redesign. The page grid that was developed allowed me to set the entire document in any language required, in less than four hours.
The client chose a ring-binder format, so that the user could add extra materials to the folder over time and engage with the standards in a personal way. The format also allows for additional pages to be printed separately and added in by the end user, vastly reducing potential costs when a policy or piece of legislation is amended.
